Who We Are

Our foundation is a project of the Australian Multiple District (MD201) of Lions Clubs International which is managed by the following board. All Members of the Board are Trustees but they have specific responsibilities for the Management of the Foundation and of "Lions House" Board of Trustees:

CHAIRMAN:  A.J. (Tony) Benbow OAM

Tony Benbow retired from Senior Management in the Banking Industry in 2013 after 39 year employment.

He has been a member of Lions Clubs International for 30 years, holding senior roles including District Governor and then Chairman of Lions Australia in 2007/8. Since that time he has held a number of International roles involving Leadership and Membership.

Tony is also the Chairman of StepAhead Australia Ltd and a Trustee of the Australian Lions Foundation Inc.

Tony has been a member of the Board of the Lions House Foundation since 2003 and Chairman from 2008. Tony was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2015 for his service to the community and Lions International.

TRUSTEE and PROPERTY MANAGER: John Morgan

john

John Morgan was running his own Real Estate Agency with a Commercial and Residential Rental Management business based in Ivanhoe with two Branch Offices located in Rosanna East and Kilmore when he became an inaugural Trustee on the Lions House Board in 2001.

He subsequently retired selling the Rental business and became involved in a range of real estate connected activities becoming CEO of two high rise Student Accommodation buildings based in the CBD and Carlton and liaised with many Tertiary Institutions. He is currently a Director of an Owners Corporation Management business and continues as an ongoing Developer of Medium Density Housing Projects predominately in Ivanhoe and Heidelberg.

The skills he has acquired since commencing in Real Estate in Ivanhoe in 1976 have merged nicely with the other dedicated Trustees he has been involved with in the careful management of the creation of Lions House on the Repatriation Hospital grounds which officially commenced below cost expectations on the Repatriation Hospital site on the 23rd February 2014.

John now has the responsibility for the property management of Lions House which his background and skills provides us with great experience

TRUSTEE and AUSTIN HEALTH LIAISON: Robert Winther OAM

Robert Winther, Veteran Liaison Officer, AUSTIN HEALTH, has worked with the Veteran Community for his whole career, having commenced work with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in 1966

He stayed with the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital when it transferred to the State Hospital system in 1995 and since that time has mainly been the Veteran Liaison for Austin Health.

Robert has been a member of the Foundation Board for many years and played a vital role in the establishment of the new “Lions House” on the Repatriation Hospital Site.

Robert has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal and the Centenary Medal for his work with the Veteran Community.
